FATRAFOL membrane installed on the roof of the Sydney Fish Market

The new Sydney Fish Market is one of the most striking modern buildings in the Australian metropolis – and its roof features FATRAFOL waterproofing membrane. The 200-metre-long undulating roof is designed to resemble the movement of water in the harbour.

The roof structure consists of 594 timber beams and 400 aluminium modular elements, covering the entire building and creating a “fish scale” effect. The supplier of the PVC roofing system is Fatra Australia, which used FATRAFOL 807G and FATRAFOL 818 waterproofing membranes for the project.

The roof is designed to be not only visually impressive but also highly functional and sustainable. Its surface allows reflected sunlight to naturally illuminate the upper floors, while at the same time protecting the building from direct solar radiation. The structure is adapted for collecting rainwater and recycled water, which is then used for irrigation and other purposes.

The roof also incorporates integrated solar panels that help reduce energy consumption from the grid. The combination of timber, aluminium, reliable FATRAFOL waterproofing membranes, and renewable energy sources makes the new Sydney Fish Market a showcase example of contemporary environmentally friendly architecture.
