The renovation of the roof cladding of an apartment building in Tábor brought the opportunity to install a modern and ecological green roof. The aim was to create a pleasant environment for the building’s residents and at the same time to contribute to the protection of the environment.
The first step was to remove the existing cladding which no longer served its purpose. It was also necessary to replace the ventilation system and remove all the perimeter elements to prepare the base for the green roof.
FATRAFOL 818 waterproofing membrane with a thickness of 1.5 mm and a width of 2.050 m was used as a base for the green roof. The membrane is resistant to plant root penetration and also resists UV radiation.
Additional layers were then laid on top of the membrane to provide the necessary substrate for the vegetation layer – a Sedum mat with several different Sedum species.
The access walkway zones were created using washed pebbles and edge trims. This will ensure easy maintenance and access to all the necessary elements.
The overall installation of the green roof on the apartment building in Tábor has not only brought aesthetic benefits, but also protects the building from high summer temperatures penetrating into the interior and thus creates a permanent thermal comfort.
